Arcaware uses a points based system to assess the arc energy hazard of an electrical installation.
Most of the time two categories are used, the first is based on tasks and their ability to produce an arc. In this table, different tasks are placed into groups and a points scale applied to each group.
The second category is based upon arc energy, this usually revolves around the energy ratings of the NFPA70E class system. Again a points scale is then applied to the energy ratings.
On some occasions a third category is used, based on the different voltage levels on a site. As above a points scale is then applied to the voltage levels.
A risk rating is then obtained by multiplying the relevant points together to obtain an overall figure.
A final table is then used to compare the figure to the PPE system required to protect the personnel.
