An equipment based assessment is more suitable when there a large differences in the arc energy ratings of the boards within the same installation.
It is created directly from the results of an arc flash study.
This is a more complex system and is more time consuming to create. It is also potentially more confusing for staff to use, as it is now likely that different types of PPE would be required depending on which board was being worked on and which task was being carried out.
This also means that there will be the need for a greater quantity of PPE, increasing costs and storage problems.
The main adavantage with this system is that the PPE will be rated to the task, so there is no danger of staff being asked to wear PPE that is unnecessary.
